Welcome to PONY Hong Kong!

A Short Message

It is the primary objective of Hong Kong Baseball Association (HKBA) to actively promote baseball in the local communities in Hong Kong. This objective is also coincidentally in full alignment with the objectives of Pony Headquarters as well as Pony Asia Pacific Zone. More intense collaboration amongst teams in Pony Asia Pacific Zone and Pony Headquarters facilitates further promotion and development of baseball and friendship within the Region.

A Brief History

Hong Kong Baseball Association (HKBA) is Hong Kong's National Sport Association of baseball registered as a member of the Hong Kong Sports Federation and Olympic Committee, China (SF&OC), and a member of World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC, formerly  known as International Baseball Federation “IBAF”), Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA)and PONY Baseball and Softball. Its administration and activities are subvented by the Hong Kong SAR Government. The HKBA was incorporated as a limited by guarantee non-profit distributing organization in Hong Kong under the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance in March 1993. Its objectives are to provide Hong Kong people with a full range of baseball activities including training programs for baseball athletes, coaches, umpires and scorers; to organize local leagues and international games; to participate in international games censored by WBSC/IBAF, BFA and PONY; and to raise the baseball standard of Hong Kong.

PROMOTION OF PONY BASEBALL IN HONG KONG

The Game Model

In view of the fast growing trend of Hong Kong's baseball community, HKBA set up a special committee, named Pony Game Committee (“PGC”) incorporated in HKBA's existing organizational structure for the administration of Pony league games in Hong Kong since 2007. Below is the proposed game model with liberal features in Hong Kong.

Status and Roles

(i) PONY Headquarters

Pony Baseball Headquarters invite HKBA to relay information to Pony district leagues  (DL) in Hong Kong for the renewal of membership and registrations of interest in entering Pony's zone competitions or the like.

(ii) HKBA

HKBA passes down the information to PGC.

(iii) PGC

PGC plays a role of field Director in the PONY Baseball regime and circulates promptly the Pony information to the existing teams and invites teams from teams from other districts which have no Pony league in place yet to form their own Pony district leagues and start playing the Pony games for the year. Then, PGC collects all registrations and confirmations of district leagues and help register their membership and interest in participation in tournaments with Pony Baseball Headquarters. Such centralization of administration can help PGC to know promptly how many district leagues in Hong Kong playing Pony games and monitor the progress of their games.
