Day 3 updates at the Bronco Asia-Pacific Zone Championships

Following Monday's opening two games and the tournament's annual opening ceremonies, action at the Bronco Asia-Pacific Zone Championships in Miyazaki, Japan was postponed Tuesday due to rain. Wednesday was jam packed with eight games, as teams jockeyed to put themselves in the best best position possible with Thursday's knockout round looming.

From Monday (July 2nd):

Game #1: Japan 23   China 0 (F/4)
Game #2: Chinese Taipei 23   Hong Kong 0 (F/4)

Tuesday's action was postponed due to rain.

Wednesday, July 4:

Game #3: Japan 16   Indonesia 0 (F/4)

Notes: An 11-run third inning allowed Japan to win its second game of the tournament decisively. Pitcher Ryota Iguchi allowed just one hit on the day, while striking out seven in a dominant performance.

Game #4: China 21   Vietnam 0 (F/4)

Notes: China broke out in the top of the first inning with seven runs and never looked back from there en route to double-digit victory. China's three-man pitching staff only allowed one hit and one walk on the day.

Game #5: Indonesia 4   China 2 

Notes: Indonesia's Rhoi Y Wotuh led off the game with a single and came around to score on Fuyu Matsuyama's single. Matsuyama scored on Michael Leonardo's groundout, giving Indonesia an early lead in a low-scoring affair. Indonesia added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth, when Rui Takahashi singled and the Indonesia offense was able to move him station-to-station and ultimately score him thanks to a Chinese error. China was able to take advantage of five-consecutive Indonesia walks in the top of the sixth to score two runs and make it just a one-run game. Indonesia countered with an extra insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, and the team was able to pull out a victory.

Game #6: Japan 16   Vietnam 0 (F/4)

Notes: Japan's Kazuki Oishi pitched a perfect four innings for the win, which included 10 outs by way of strikeouts, as the offense mustered nine hits and manufactured 16 runs.

Game #7: Chinese Taipei 6   Korea 0 (F/6)

Notes: The three-man Chinese Taipei pitching staff pitched a gem against Korea, yielding no runs on five hits and no walks, while striking out five. Korea left four runners in scoring position stranded during the game. A solo home run bu Te-Yu Lin and a two-run home run by Chia-Feng Lai ignited the Chinese Taipei offense on the day.

Game #8: Korea 29   Hong Kong 0 (F/4)

Notes: The three-man Korean pitching staff combined to pitch four perfect innings to record the win, as the offense batted through the order twice in the both the first and second innings to win decisively.

Game #9: Chinese Taipei 23   Philippines 0 (F/4)

Notes: A 15-run bottom of the first inning provided Chinese Taipei all the run support in would need in the game. Defensively, the three-man Chinese Taipei pitching staff combined to only allow two hits and two walks, while striking out nine in the win.

Game #10: Philippines 16   Hong Kong 1 (F/4)

Notes: The Philippines offense collected 11 hits on the day en route to a successful day at the plate. For Hong Kong, Yip Aidan Chun Kiu walked and later came around to score in the third inning to score Hong Kong's first run of the tournament.

Vietnam (0-2) vs. Indonesia (1-1)
Korea (1-1) vs. Philippines (1-1)

Japan (3-0) vs. Korea/Philippines winner
Chinese Taipei (3-0) vs. TBD
