Day 5 Game Recaps of the 2024 Printscape Pony League World Series
GAME 13: TAINAN CITY, CHINESE TAIPEI 4 vs. PALMVIEW, TX 3
Palmview, TX fell 4-3 to Tainan City, Chinese Taipei on Tuesday despite out-hitting them nine to three. Ramiro Alejandro Leon, Isaiah Olivares, and Gael Zambrano each collected two hits for Palmview, TX.
Palmview, TX was right in it until Tainan City, Chinese Taipei singled in the ninth inning.
A play put Palmview, TX on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
Tainan City, Chinese Taipei scored on a wild pitch, which helped Tainan City, Chinese Taipei tie the game at one in the top of the sixth.
A double by Leon gave Palmview, TX the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth.
A double by Chin Wei-Hsiang gave Tainan City, Chinese Taipei the lead, 3-2, in the top of the seventh.
Edgar Quintanilla singled after a 8-pitch at-bat, which helped Palmview, TX tie the game at three in the bottom of the seventh.
Wu Chieh-Jui earned the win for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei. The reliever allowed five hits and two runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out 10 and walking one. Quintanilla took the loss for Palmview, TX. The reliever went two innings, giving up one run (zero earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking two. Noah Cortez opened the game for Palmview, TX. The starting pitcher surrendered zero hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking three. Lin Liang-Kai began the game for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and one run over three innings, striking out three and walking none.
Leon and Quintanilla each drove in one run for Palmview, TX.
Wei-Hsiang led Tainan City, Chinese Taipei with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Bryan Schmeltz hit two home runs and drove in three as Washington County, PA defeated Bronx, NY 19-9 on Tuesday. Schmeltz homered in the first and fourth innings.
Washington County, PA got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Tim Crayton singled, scoring one run, Schmeltz homered to left field, scoring two runs, Tristin Coney grounded out, scoring one run, Landon Conn hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Coen Phasupong singled, scoring one run, and Crayton singled, scoring two runs.
A hit by a pitch, a single by Coney, and an error helped Washington County, PA extend their early lead in the second.
Bronx, NY scored five runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Fausto Dominguez hit a grand slam to left field, and an error scored one run.
Washington County, PA scored five runs on two hits in the bottom of the third inning. Macksim Nonack lined out, scoring one run, Easton Dulaney singled, scoring one run, Jackson Smith drew a walk, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored two runs.
Two more Washington County, PA runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 19-7. Schmeltz hit a solo home run to left field, and Landon Trnavsky drew a walk, scoring one run.
Angel Garcia homered to left field, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth for the Bronx, NY.
Owen Samogala earned the win for Washington County, PA. The right-handed pitcher gave up three hits and seven runs (five earned) over three innings, striking out five and walking seven. Jhanley Rodriguez took the loss for Bronx, NY. The hurler went two-thirds of an inning, allowing five runs on three hits, striking out none and walking two. Landon Crowe threw one inning of shutout ball for Washington County, PA in relief. The right-handed pitcher allowed one hit, striking out one and walking none.
Washington County, PA piled up 13 hits in the game. Samogala and Crayton each collected multiple hits for Washington County, PA. Smith paced Washington County, PA with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Samogala and Trnavsky each stole multiple bases for Washington County, PA.
Dominguez provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Bronx, NY with five runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-4 on the day. Garcia paced Bronx, NY with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.
GAME 15: GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO 10 vs. TAINAN CITY, CHINESE TAIPEI 3
Guaynabo, Puerto Rico scored nine runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat Tainan City, Chinese Taipei 10-3 on Tuesday. Dylan Padilla doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Akillis Rivera singled, scoring two runs, Joniel Miranda singled, scoring two runs, Carlos Arroyo doubled, scoring one run, and an error scored one run.
Miranda led things off on the bump for Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The hurler gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking two. Chin Wei-Hsiang opened the game for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei. The pitcher gave up nine hits and 10 runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking none. Dereck Garcia appeared in relief for Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
Guaynabo, Puerto Rico amassed 10 hits in the game. Padilla provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Guaynabo, Puerto Rico with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Arroyo set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Guaynabo, Puerto Rico with three hits in four at bats. Miranda collected two hits for Guaynabo, Puerto Rico in three at bats. Guaynabo, Puerto Rico turned one double play in the game.
Lin Liang-Kai, Chen Ching-Jung, Chen Po-An, and Chen Hsuan-Chi each collected one hit for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei. Ching-Jung and Po-An each drove in one run for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei.
Guaynabo, Puerto Rico will play Tijuana, Mexico in Game Nineteen on Wednesday, August 14, at 7:30pm. Tainan City, Chinese Taipei has been eliminated from the 2024 Printscape Pony League World Series.
GAME 16: TIJUANA, MEXICO 10 vs. WASHINGTON COUNTY, PA 8
Bryan Schmeltz drove in four on two hits, but Washington County, PA fell to Tijuana, Mexico 10-8 on Tuesday.
Washington County, PA fell behind by six runs in the fifth inning, but then tried to fight back. Washington County, PA closed the gap by scoring on a single, a home run, a single, a walk, and a single.
Tijuana, Mexico got on the board in the second inning after Xavier Sanchez singled, scoring one run.
A single by Emiliano Contreras extended the Tijuana, Mexico lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning.
Washington County, PA made the score 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Tim Crayton singled, scoring one run, and Schmeltz homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Washington County, PA captured the lead, 8-6, in the bottom of the sixth when Coen Phasupong singled, scoring one run, Crayton drew a walk, scoring one run, and Schmeltz singled, scoring one run.
Tijuana, Mexico tied the game in the top of the seventh thanks to a single by Alexander Jimenez, and a walk by Romeo Briones.
Tijuana, Mexico captured the lead, 10-8, in the top of the eighth after Eymos Bentancourt doubled, and Sanchez singled, each scoring one run.
Landon Crowe stepped on the bump first for Washington County, PA. The hurler gave up five hits and three runs over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking three. Axel Briones began the game for Tijuana, Mexico. The righty surrendered two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking two.
Washington County, PA collected 10 hits in the game. Schmeltz and Phasupong each collected two hits for Washington County, PA.
Tijuana, Mexico collected 14 hits in the game. Contreras and Jimenez each collected three hits for Tijuana, Mexico. Jimenez led Tijuana, Mexico with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 3-for-6 on the day. Sanchez and Bryan Espinoza each collected multiple hits for Tijuana, Mexico.
Tijuana, Mexico will playGuaynabo, Puerto Rico in Game 19 on Wednesday, August 14, at 7:30pm. Washington County, PA has been eliminated from the 2024 Printscape Pony League World Series.
