2022 Colt World Series Day 4 Recap

Game Fourteen: Harlingen, TX 7, Southern Illinois 4


Harlingen, TX beat Southern Illinois 7-4, taking an early lead and protecting it to move on in the World Series.


Harlingen took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first. An error and reaching on an error allowed the Texas team to score three runs. A single by Aiden Douglas brought in two more runs to end the scoring of the inning.


Southern Illinois responded with three runs of their own in the top of the third inning. A single drove in their first run, with a line drive triple to left field by Aaron Sheffer scoring two runs to make it a 5-3 game.


A single in the bottom of the third extended Harlingen’s lead to 6-3.


Both defenses were strong in the fourth and fifth innings, as neither team was able to score a run.


In the top of the sixth, a single drove in a run for Southern Illinois, but a single by Harlingen in the bottom of the inning locked in Harlingen’s 7-4 win.

Game Fifteen: Greensboro, NC 9, Monterrey, MX 8


With elimination on the line, Greensboro, NC and Monterrey, MX battled in an eleven-inning showdown.


Monterrey scored first on a bases-loaded single to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.


Greensboro claimed the lead in the bottom of the same inning. A single got Greensboro on the board. A walk tied the game 2-2. A reach on an error provided another scoring opportunity for Greensboro to take a 3-2 lead.


They extended their lead in the bottom of the second. An error by Monterrey’s catcher and a wild pitch made the score 5-2.


A sacrifice bunt by Jordan Saunders gave Greensboro a lead with a score of 6-2 in the bottom of the third.


In the bottom of the fifth, a sacrifice fly brought in Greensboro’s seventh run.


Monterrey evened the score in the top of the sixth inning. The scoring started with a fielder’s choice in the beginning of the inning. A triple by Humberto Cruz Guajardo put Monterrey one run shy of tying the game. A single tied the game at 7-7.


In the bottom of the sixth inning, Ian McMillan of Greensboro hit a line drive triple to regain the lead with an 8-7 score.


Monterrey was not far behind, scoring on an error to retie the game at eight runs apiece.


Both teams’ defenses played hard with no runs scored by either team from the bottom of the seventh to the top of the eleventh.


Greensboro claimed the win to advance in the World Series with a walk-off by Ian McMillan with a final score of 9-8.

Game Sixteen: Covina, CA 14, Harlingen, TX 1


Covina, CA advances to the Championship game, beating Harlingen, TX in four and a half innings with a  14-1 score.


Covina’s offense started strong in the bottom of the first inning. A sacrifice fly drove in one right, with a single line drive scoring another to take a 2-0 lead.


They extended their lead to 5-0 in their next time at-bat. Doubles by Adrian Morales and Paul Montoya drove in two runs, with the fifth coming from a walk.


Harlingen scored in the top of the third inning on a walk to make it a 5-1 game.


In the bottom of the fourth, Covina scored an impressive nine runs. Their scoring started on a walk, but the remaining eight runs were scored on five singles to take a win with a final score of 14-1.

Game Seventeen: Marion, IL 8, Greensboro, NC 5


Marion, IL wins over Greensboro, NC in a late game to advance to the Championship game with a score of 8-5.


Marion scored in the bottom of the first on a single by Caleb Siebers to make it a 1-0 game, but Greensboro quickly returned the run on a double by Conner Smith.


In the bottom of the third inning, Marion took a 5-1 lead. A sacrifice fly by Ethan Golish broke the tie. Dawson Griffith and Jack Ford singled to drive in a combined three runs.


A hit by pitch with bases loaded made the score 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.


Not slowing down, Marion extended their lead by two more runs. Drake Moss hit a fly ball triple to drive in one run, with Caleb Siebers hitting another single to make it an 8-1 game.


Greensboro tried to catch up to Marion in the top of the sixth inning. Nathan Billings was hit by a pitch, advancing the runners and scoring a run. A single by Wesley Clewis and a sacrifice fly by Angel Mora Valdes cut Marion’s lead to 8-4.


With only the top of the seventh inning left to try to get out ahead of Marion, Greensboro had a lot of ground to make up. A single by Greensboro’s Conner Smith scored the final run, making the final score 8-5 with Marion advancing to the Championship.
